As part of a major progress report for my master’s program, I was tasked with creating an investigative report on a UX design metric. Given my passion for psychology, I decided to explore color psychology and its underutilization in digital UX design.

The primary objective of the report was to examine why color, which has long been a cornerstone of traditional marketing—featured in everything from video ads to billboards and social media graphics—is often undervalued in digital environments.

Despite its proven effectiveness in influencing emotions and behavior, the strategic application of color is frequently overlooked in areas like website design, SEO strategies, and overall UX. Why is something so integral to traditional marketing practices so often dismissed in digital contexts? Why do we continue to view color primarily as an aesthetic tool rather than a powerful instrument to enhance usability, improve accessibility, and influence user behavior?

Through comprehensive research, I explored the psychological effects of color choices and how they can be used to improve user experiences across digital platforms.

I presented my findings to a group of peers and professors at my alma mater, Arizona State University, sparking a thoughtful discussion on the potential of color psychology in digital design and its future implications for the field.
